FCA publishes customer vulnerability guidance

Pension companies must work to understand the characteristics of vulnerability that are likely to be present in their target market or customer base, according to new guidance from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
The regulator’s new guidance for firms on the fair treatment of vulnerable customers calls for companies from different ends of the financial services sector to be more aware of customers’ vulnerabilities, for example noting that common characteristics of pension customers may involve health and life events associated with old age.
It also noted that firms needed to be aware that some characteristics of vulnerability, such as bereavement and relationship breakdown, would be present in all sectors.
Those who are able often take care of the elderly people in their families themselves, or hire caregivers to assist in the home. Many people expect that their children will eventually take care of them, but I do not intend to have children, so I will almost certainly have to fend for myself in my old age.
I will certainly need savings to take care of daily needs, and I will need a place to live. Paying rent does not seem like the best plan for an elderly person with limited funds, so I ve decided I need to purchase or build a house.

(ATR) Retiring two-time Olympic skiing champion Ted Ligety says he wants to become involved in the drive to bring the Olympic Winter Games back to Salt Lake City.
Ligety, 36, who grew up and resides in Park City, where Alpine and Freestyle ski events were contested in 2002, says those Games inspired him to become a world class ski racer. He says he would love for his three young children to witness this same experience in their backyard.
“Having the Olympics in Salt Lake in 2002 was a huge part of my inspiration as a kid and the atmosphere was awesome,” said Ligety, who was a forerunner at those Olympic races, then 17. “It was a big eye-opener for me to see the best in the world competing at their pinnacle, to see how they went about it and see how relatable it was.
